Corona Chat Part 2: It Continues

As we get deeper into our connection with Rona Mae Jenkins, I thought that it was cool to have another Facebook Live giving some updates on the transition from the CARES Act to the pending HEROES Act. Currently a lot of what was in the first bill is starting to expire or phase off and people are starting to have fear and ask for facts. Which I get and have myself.

In Part 1, I gave some of the benefits that many of you were able to take advantage of and some insights on how to maneuver through this season that we are in. I stated during the last Corona Chat Part 1 (Live + article) that I had a feeling that this dance wasn’t going to be over so quickly. Even before it was announced that we were within a recession, I gave my feelings that one was going to be realized; whelp here we are.

I’m going to embed my FB Live  with the content that I am sharing within this article, but also give some additional context to the information shared. The reason for this is due to some potential updates that have come since that Live initially aired. A suggestion to those reading would be to watch the Live and then read the additional context. It connects, trust me.

Again-  this Live is a coupla (couple) weeks go, but the content is still fresh. The news of evictions and unemployment running out, this whole situation that we are in continues to shape this recession deeper than we initially expected. If you are facing this situation or preparing for the long haul, the Pandemic Paper series gives you some insight on how not to get shaded by the darkness of this time.

If you are facing evictions, repo or even uncertainty, here are some tings to keep in mind -

  1. Focus on what you can control. Easier said than done, I get it. But this will help you more than you think.

  2. Check yo check and spending. If you watch my Lives you know what I mean. But for those who don’t, this simply means to get ahead of your spending and cease anything that doesn’t fit your “Blow” allowance.

  3. Stack any additional monies (I’m Southern, so you get it). No matter if it is what your cousin owes you or PUA (Government Unemployment), stack your coints. That additional $600 ends on 7/25 or 7/31. Depending on how many folks continue to make a claim for unemployment, this could be sooner than later.

  4. If your unemployment runs out, check to see if they are offering Extended Benefits (anywhere from 8-20 weeks). Some states are starting to roll this out until our friends on the hill make a deal (NC, SC, OH, WA, PA, etc).

  5. Save your household. Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’. Their house is feeling it too. Just like Rona Mae Jenkins, the economy shift is being felt by all. Don’t let the smoke and mirrors fool you. Check your spending, pay down debt, peep your credit, stack that cash

If there are any additional questions that you may have about this current time or what’s to come - drop them in the comment section. It’s going to be an interesting ride, but we are going to make it! Let’s hope that this HEROES Act comes through to help many who need it and quickly!
